Liberator™ fiber, Syscom Advanced Material's new and novel conductive metal-clad fiber utilizing Kuraray’s Vectran™ fiber, gives freedom to design outside the constraints of traditional wires. Liberator™ fiber pairs a flexible, high-strength, Vectran® fiber core with a conductive metal outer layer.
Liberator™ fiber has advantages over conventional conductive metal wires in flexibility, weight savings, mechanical strength, durability with giving up electrical conductivity. Further, Liberator™ fiber can be terminated just like a regular metal with the choice of soldering or a band connector.
The innovative Liberator™ fiber allows electrical and mechanical engineers more freedom to design electrical systems with reduced size and weight and to solve high cycle/high flexure mechanical assembly issues. Because of its base Vectran® fiber, Liberator has excellent thermal stability and property retention at high and low temperatures. The textile characteristics of Liberator™ fiber also enable innovative manufacturing processes and are compatible with most manufacturing systems.
Vectran™ is a high-performance multifilament yarn spun from liquid crystal polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is the only commercially available melt spun LCP fiber in the world. Vectran™ fiber exhibits exceptional strength and rigidity. Pound for pound, Vectran™ fiber is five times stronger than steel and ten times stronger than aluminum. The Vectran™ fiber has high abrasion resistance, excellent flex/fold characteristics and outstanding cut resistance.
